WV SHINE NETWORK
"Helping West Virginia Shine - One Connection at a Time"
S = Statewide H = Hub for I = Inclusion N = Navigation E = Empowerment
To illuminate access and connection across West Virginia by building a statewide hub for inclusion, navigation, and empowerment-linking Deaf, DeafBlind, Hard of Hearing, and disabled individuals with the resources they need to thrive.
Many West Virginia directories, including some state-run sites, combine national or out-of-state listings with local ones. This can make it confusing to tell which resources actually serve West Virginia. This list was created to clearly identify programs that are based in or directly serving West Virginia, with a few neighboring supports included when helpful.

WV Hands & Voices is dedicated to the non-biased support of families who have children who are deaf or hard of hearing without bias toward communication modality or methodology. We strive to provide activities and information statewide to parents and professionals that may include outreach events, educational seminars, advocacy support, and parent-to-parent networking. We believe families will make the best choices for their child if they have access to good information and support.

"Grace has offered an active ministry of teaching, fellowship, and activities for the hearing impaired since 1968. Started by Pastor Jim Asbury, it is now led by Gailyn Agar. The Deaf Ministry of Grace Gospel Church offers special activities as well as weekly services on Sunday mornings at 9:30 am."
Special note about Gailyn Agar: "She has served in deaf ministry in West Virginia, specifically in the Huntington area. She worked through her home church's ministry to the hearing-impaired for 55 years. In the 1980s, Gailyn served as a missionary to the deaf community in Venezuela. After she was unable to return there, she continued her ministry work with the deaf through her church in West Virginia. This involves helping the deaf with grocery shopping, counseling, interpreting for the hearing, cleaning the toe of a deaf person who underwent surgery, etc. She has been praying for years for a younger person to step up to the plate and continue the ministry. Now, instead of one person, three people have indicated their desire to focus on the hearing-impaired ministry!" https://www.fim.org/explore/gospel-stories/god-hears-prayers-for-the-deaf/#:~:text=February%206%2C%202023,on%20the%20hearing%2Dimpaired%20ministry!
